Inspired by FL-9919 & FL-9925 I think it would be wise to move MATE to a Grade-A support. Based on some discussions in #development it may be possible to move all the MATE packages to the github-1 autogen.

Also, some other packages might be useful to make a complete MATE desktop experience like the ayatana indicators (we still have appindicator, but it's been deprecated since a long time ago)

What would be needed to achieve this? Is there any step-to-step guide on slowly autogenning a DE? MATE has some things thay may be difficult to autogen as the core libs packages are fragmented and there is a meta-package for the whole desktop.
