After upgrading to sys-kernel/debian-sources-3.10.11 (+binary), my system fails to boot, halting where the intird seeks to find and mount a root filesystem. The system is configured in accordance with the Funtoo Linux installation guide (that is, /dev/sda4 is the root filesystem, and I use portage/genkernel to build the kernel and initrd). The block devices for the file systems ARE present at the rescue shell.

Upon further investigation in the rescue shell, it appears that the xfs module in 3.10.11 references a symbol not present (crc32c) in the kernel and consequently fails to load. With help from the IRC channel, I manually insmod'ed the xfs and libcrc32c modules, without success - both modules complained of missing symbols.
