ntp-client fails to update clock from remote ntp server

    • Install ntp and add ntp-client to default runlevel, according to the funtoo and/or gentoo wiki entry, then reboot.
    • DNS stuff not ready when rc wants to start ntp-client?
    • ntp-client successfully syncs with the remote server when `$ rc` is invoked after login.

      drobbins suggested I file this bug report a little while back, and I'm just now getting to it.

       

      ntp-client fails to update the clock from the remote ntp servers on boot, issuing this message:

      Exiting, Name server cannot be used: Temporary failure in name resolution (-3) * Failed to set clock
      ERROR: ntp-client failed to start

      Clarification:

      rc_use="dns"

      is set in /etc/conf.d/ntp-client.

      Also, I'm using dhcpcd, rather than networkmanager.
