Funtoo restricts the available toolchain packages in the tree. This leads to broken *-bin packages usually due to them being built with newer glibc than what is in funtoo. The current trend has been to either mask the package or otherwise try to steer the user away from these packages. If everyone had newer systems with fast processors and lots of RAM it wouldn't be much of an issue but as it is some systems just can't handle building these packages and for those users bin packages are their only option. Funtoo should support the latest available versions of these packages that are compatible with it's toolchain or as an alternative, offer masked versions of glibc that are compatible.
