As discussed here: http://forums.funtoo.org/index.php?/topic/279-fails-to-update-glibc-to-219-hardened-profile/?hl=%2Bglibc#entry1519
Frequently, the glibc build will fail for hardened. It will fail in this exact spot:
make[4]: Leaving directory '/var/tmp/portage/sys-libs/glibc-2.19/work/glibc-2.19/gmon' make subdir=nptl -C ../nptl ..=../ objdir=/var/tmp/portage/sys-libs/glibc-2.19/work/build-x86-x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-nptl -f Makefile -f $ ../Makerules:252: *** Cannot allocate memory. Stop. make[4]: Leaving directory '/var/tmp/portage/sys-libs/glibc-2.19/work/glibc-2.19/csu' ../o-iterator.mk:9: recipe for target '/var/tmp/portage/sys-libs/glibc-2.19/work/build-x86-x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-nptl/csu/rtld-check_fds$ make[3]: *** [/var/tmp/portage/sys-libs/glibc-2.19/work/build-x86-x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-nptl/csu/rtld-check_fds.os] Error 2 make[3]: *** Waiting for unfinished jobs....
While the error appears to be due to a memory allocation issue, it does not appear to be caused by a low memory condition. Often, repeating the build will allow the build to continue.
