While trying to install from a stage 3 to slightly older hardware (think intel64-westmere (arrandale) I had to update to a newer debian kernel version. I am sitting at approximately 3 hours so far compiling just the kernel. This is one of my least favorite things to do in Funtoo (apart from a mongo, llvm, or spidermonkey recompile). Please don't get me wrong, I love compiling things, I don't think Funtoo should go all bin. That said, some things just make sense to be binary compiled... if we have bin versions of the Debian (default) kernel shipping with stage 3's, it just makes sense to provide bin versions of the default kernel per cpu arch and give users a choice? Especially for older CPU architecture users. If I am overlooking something big please let me know, but I do believe this would help overall user experience with Funtoo and other than Funtoo infra data constraints, we could make this happen easily enough I would think.  Not a pressing issue but would contribute to a better user experience, especially for new users with older hardware.
