Doing a fresh stage 3 install (build release id generic_64-pure64-2018-03-21) seems to be broken:

I have done the following steps (using SystemrescueCD 5.2.1):

• Download stage3 tarball from https://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/funtoo/funtoo-current/pure64/generic_64-pure64/stage3-latest.tar.xz
• Partitioned HDD
• mount and chroot into the partitioned HDD
• untar stage 3 tarball
• ego sync
• set localtime to UTC
• emerge -v boot-update

Everything worked but the last step. This produced the following error message:

!!! ParseError: Parent 'llvm-kit:funtoo/kits/python-kit/3.4-prime' not found: '/etc/portage/make.profile/parent'
!!! Your current profile is invalid. If you have just changed your profile
!!! configuration, you should revert back to the previous configuration.
!!! Allowed actions are limited to --help, --info, --search, --sync, and
!!! --version.
