      There is a maintenance task that is required, both in 1.4-release and next-release although it is primarily a job for next-release – 

      Many ebuilds depend on sys-libs/ncurses[unicode], and ncurses does in fact have a unicode USE variable, but it was just maintained so these ebuilds wouldn't blow up. It doesn't actually do anything. Therefore, we should clean up next-release so that it doesn't reference this USE variable any more.
